Bye-bye Mars bars!

Not that I ever had a big thing for them, but most Masterfoods products (inc. Mars, Twix, Maltesers) are no longer suitable for vegetarians.

The company has stupidly switched suppliers and will now be using non-vegetarian whey which contains calf rennet.

This move has prompted the Vegetarian Society to write a bit on their site and go to various news sites, urging people to complain to Masterfoods.

How annoying. I found the comment by Masterfoods that many "vegetarians" could still enjoy their product to be counter-effective, as they obviously didn't bother looking up a definition. Go to the vegetarian society (or any other reputable animal/vegetarian society site) and the definition of vegetarian clearly includes avoiding gelatine and rennet. I realise not every vegetarian sticks to that, but it's not just "strict" vegetarians who do and it's just bad form on their part to try and suggest that their products are still vegetarian friendly.

That's too bad, not that I'm a big fan of these chocolates either, but why on earth add something with rennet in a chocolate-candy?? It's bad enough they use it in most jelly-sweets. And what a completely ignorant and non-customer friendly answer that
was...:(

I just found my way to your blog, and I'll definately pop by in the future - to pick up some news from Edinburgh (one of my favourite cities in the world!) and some veggie recipes:)
